Why Fiberglass Is Great for Fencing

About Me
Summers Are More Fun with a Backyard Deck

When I was growing up, my family home had a backyard deck. I didn't realize how much I loved it until I later moved into my own home that didn't have one. We used to have family over for outdoor gatherings and cook out on it. It was covered, so if it rained, it never ruined the party! As a teenager, one of my favorite ways to relax was to go outside onto the deck and listen to the rain fall on its roof. The sound was so soothing. After enduring one summer in my new home with no deck, I was determined to have one installed quickly. I found a local contractor who got the job done quickly and accurately, and my house now feels like a "home!" I decided to start a blog to share what I learned during the deck construction process along with some other tips!

Why Fiberglass Is Great for Fencing

Adding a simple picket fence to your property is a great way to give your yard some privacy and safety while also adding some style to your property. No matter what your reason for investing in a new fence, you will want a product that is durable and easy to maintain. While wood is a popular fencing product, it does require a little bit of maintenance. If you're interested in the look of a wooden fence but don't want to deal with all the maintenance, you should consider fiberglass. This article explains the advantages of choosing a fiberglass fence.

Faux-Wood Fiberglass Finishes

First, you need to understand that fiberglass is now being made with more advanced technologies. As a result, it looks more and more like real wood. Manufactures employ advanced printing techniques that give the fiberglass the look and feel of real wood. Most people will be able to look closely and realize that your fence is not made out of redwood. However, most people walking or driving by will not be able to tell the difference.

Fiberglass Is Waterproof

The biggest difference between fiberglass and wood is the fact that fiberglass is waterproof. Best of all, it doesn't need any special treatment to keep it that way. Fiberglass is painted in the factory using powder-coating techniques. Even if this durable finish were to somehow get scratched off or removed, the actual fiberglass material would not really be affected by moisture. Not only do you never need to paint or stain a fiberglass fence after it is installed, but cleaning it is very simple. You don't need to use any special cleaners or conditioner for fiberglass. In fact, you can usually effectively spray down your fence with water. If necessary, you can knock off dirt and grass stains with a little bit of soap.

Fiberglass Is Modular

Most manufacturers have products with a modular design, meaning most of the pieces can attach to each other without any screws. They are precut with special slots and grooves that allow the rails to snap into the post with virtually no tools. You will still need to make a few cuts when it comes to the length of your rails, but fiberglass is very easy to cut with a normal wood saw. Basically, even if you don't have any construction experience, you'll probably be able to handle the installation of a fiberglass fence. This also becomes convenient down the line if any of your fence pieces get broken.
